The Idea:
Make money scanning and restoring treasured old photos that have succumbed to the deteriorating effects of time.
How it Works:
You'll need a computer, scanner and photo software (like Adobe Photoshop) to get started. Photo restoration is a learned skill, so practice on your own family photos first. Once you start to establish yourself and get paying customers, you can offer to return the finished products in print format (printed off of a photo printer) or digitally (on CD or by transferring the finished files to their computer.
How Much Can You Make:
Photo restorers generally charge $15-200 per photograph, depending on the level of damage. How much money you make will be dependent on how quickly you work, but you can expect your speed at restoration to increase as you practice and get more familiar with the software and techniques involved.
