The Idea:
Become a citizen photojournalist through sites like Scoopt, a UK-based website now owned by Getty Images that sells amateur photos of news events to the media.
How it Works:
If you happen to be in the right place at the right time to snap off a few shots on your digital camera or even on your camera phone, you could sell those shots to the media. There are sites that make this easier for individuals with cameras to connect with media organizations, the most prominent being Scoopt, Citizen Image, and Spy Media. You submit your pic and they do the marketing. The profits are split (often 50-50 or 60-40) between the site and you. Don't worry about whether your shots are high enough quality, either. These sites often sell grainy cellphone shots if they are timely, relevant and unique.
How Much Can You Make:
The minimum that Scoopt sells shots for is 50 pounds (about 100 US dollars) – other sites vary depending on the shot. You can make much more if you happen upon a major event or stumble upon a celebrity and get some good photos.
