The Idea:
Paint large murals on schools, businesses and even on people's homes for pay.
How it Works:
To be a mural painter, you must be good at painting large- most murals take up a single wall, while some spread over multiple floors or around buildings. Your paintings should be highly individual if you want to succeed. Most mural painters find a particular niche and advertize themselves appropriately. One popular specialty if painting children's rooms with wall-sized designs. Others specialize in schools, restaurants or nightclubs. You could also choose to incorporate pets, kids, cultural symbols or landscape scenes into your murals and specialize that way. Another idea is to incorporate glow-in-the-dark components or to offer services for groups where the members help paint in the mural after you have outlined the design.
How Much Can You Make:
Mural painters often charge $200- $500 for a single room one-wall mural, depending on the complexity and time. Prices go up for more complex or larger work, and can range into the thousands for complex outdoor designs.
