The Idea:
Get paid to help decorate other people's homes.
How it Works:
As an interior designer, you will work hard to make other people's homes look good. You can operate this kind of small business from your own home, and can advertise or let word of your service spread via word-of-mouth. Interior designers need to be good organizers. You'll have to coordinate contractors who handle things like painting and arrange for furniture delivery. It helps if you have good connections to companies in your area who sell household appliance, furniture, lighting and home décor. If you can arrange discounts or commissions with some of these companies you can pass the savings on to your customers to generate more business.
How Much Can You Make:
Interior designers can charge high prices, based on their expertise. Expect to make $50-100 an hour, with the higher end available once you have established a good reputation and made contacts in your industry.
