Campus Rep/ Brand Manager - Gig Profile

The Idea:

Promote corporate products and services on your school campus and earn extra cash to support your...um...study expenses... yeah, that's what you call it...

How it Works:

Companies hire college students to act as their representatives on campus.

This might mean setting up a tent featuring those products before every football game or placing flyers around campus to promote a new service. Different companies require different strategies to reach the college audience and it's your job to help them carry out that task.

Some of the types of companies who hire campus reps are sportswear companies, movie distributors, credit card firms, online textbook stores and snack manufacturers.

Compensation is usually based on commissions and the work can be time-consuming, but you're already spending most of your time on campus anyway and it can be a great way to get some work experience for a major corporation on your resume. Some companies also offer perks and benefits to their reps, including free products, discounts and bonuses for reaching certain sales or advertizing levels.

How Much Can You Make:

The money for being a campus rep is usually fairly low, but if you're good at sales and marketing, you can often make a sizeable amount in commissions and bonuses. At the minimal end, campus rep gigs can cover beer and pizza. At the high end, you could potentially pay your tuition fees from this kind of work.
