Spend Your Spare Time Making Cash with Mechanical Turk

by Colleen St.Claire 6. May 2010 15:33
Amazon's Mechanical Turk is a program that pays you to spend some time doing mindless tasks. Most of the tasks are easy- things like transcribing addresses from scanned resumes or answering questions on a blog. The pay is small, but it can add up quickly if you're sitting in front of the TV completing little jobs when you'd otherwise be doing nothing. And after completing a few boring jobs, you'll become eligible for the higher paying and more fun opportunities available on the site.

Part Time Santa Gig Makes It Big

by Colleen St.Claire 6. November 2009 15:35
A post on the Fast Company website looks at the going rate (and the high-end rate) for being a Mall Santa over the holidays. If you like kids and have a lot of patience (and perhaps a round belly and a practiced "ho, ho ,ho") you might consider this as a way to make some extra cash for your own holiday spending. No wonder Santa is always so jolly!

Raising and Renting Goats

by Colleen St.Claire 31. October 2009 15:30

For a completely different type of business opportunity, someone with a bit of land and a penchant for animals might consider raising goats and renting them out as a viable business to begin.

Here's a recent article from GOOD magazine about someone doing just that in Seattle. The company, Rent a Ruminant, rents goats to help clear land, but goats can also be a moneymaker in other ways. Goat milk and goat cheese are popular artisan products that goat owners could make and sell at farmer's markets or local groceries.

Are you suited to start your own business?

by Colleen St.Claire 13. November 2008 02:46
New research shows that risk-takers are more likely to be successful entrepreneurs. The study, published in the prestigious science journal Nature found that risk-takers have the ability to make quick decisions under stress, which leads them to become successful entrepreneurs. Luckily for the risk-averse, the skill of risk-taking can be taught.

Articles and Ideas

by Colleen St.Claire 6. October 2008 15:36

I've been hard at work writing some articles that are now up on the Ezinearticles.com site.

I've written one titled Sell Yourself to Science  about getting involved as a paid medical research volunteer.

Take Great Pet Photos gives tips for would-be pet photographers (or anyone who wants to take pictures like one.)

And while Save Money with Low-Cost Luxuries isn't precisely a moneymaker article, it does tell how to get high-cost goods for next to nothing, a topic many bootstrapping entrepreneurs would love to know more about.

Hope you enjoy the articles and be sure to explore the Sweetgigs site to check out the latest gigs we've been uploading.

Earn Spare Cash Online- Cash Crate

by Colleen St.Claire 6. September 2008 15:38

Cash Crate is one of many services that let you make money for taking surveys, providing reviews and filling out offers from advertizers. They operate on the idea that by giving participants a portion of the money, they get more companies signing up with them. Like most of these programs, Cash Crate isn't a huge-income moneymaker. But it can bring in an extra $20, 50 or $100 every few weeks fairly easily, especially once you start gathering referrals.

It is probably best suited for students, stay-at-home moms and others who have the time to fill out various offers and surveys to earn money. One good thing about Cash Crate is that they pay out at $20, which means you don't have to wait long to see if the program works for you.

If you're interested in signing up, click here to join as my referral.

Thanks!

Yuwie - What's the Story?

by Colleen St.Claire 6. July 2008 15:41
A controversial new social networking site called Yuwie recently opened online that pays members to participate. It works by giving members a portion of the ad revenue when they or their referrals spend time on the site. On the positive side, Yuwie points out that it gives members back some of the ad money that other social networking sites keep for themselves. The detractors of Yuwie don't like the dependence on referrals to make money, comparing it, like many of the surf-for-pay sites that have come and gone, to pyramid schemes and MLMs. The SweetGigs take? We're willing to try Yuwie, but honestly don’t see ourselves spending much time there. The site is quite ad-heavy, which is nice for shared ad revenue, but not really what I want to see in a social networking site. Plus, there are so many social networking sites out there and most of our editorial staff here has their own personal favorites already. But maybe sometimes during some boring Tuesday afternoon downtime I might play around on Yuwie and bring some of my friends along. Of course, if any readers of this blog want to try Yuwie, I'd love to have you as my referral. Follow the link here to sign up or learn more about Yuwie. Thanks!
